The 12VHPWR / 12V-2×6 connector on NVIDIA's highest-power cards keeps producing melted-connector reports, especially on the 575W RTX 5090, and especially with adapters, bent cables, or connectors that aren't fully seated. If you run one of these cards, connector inspection is part of any service we do, and if yours already melted, bring card and cable in for assessment before plugging anything back in.

Plenty of used GPUs for sale ran 24/7 in mining rigs. Worn fans, cooked thermal pads, and degraded memory are commonly reported. If you bought a used card that's acting up, or want one tested before you rely on it: we test cards on the bench.
Aging cards running hot sometimes not a replacement
Thermal paste and pads dry out after years of service, and temperatures climb until the card throttles or shuts down. Here's the honest part: sometimes the heat is coming from the tower, not the card (clogged filters, dead case fans, poor airflow), and fixing that costs a fraction of a new card. We don't rework the card itself, so if the card is the problem, it gets replaced. The diagnostic tells us which it is.
GPU sag taking out cards slowly preventable
Big modern cards are heavy, and years of hanging off one bracket can stress the board and slot. If your card droops, a support bracket is cheap insurance, we'll flag it any time we're inside your case. Because the total depends heavily on which card your system needs, entry-level and flagship GPUs are hundreds of dollars apart. We quote the exact card options and full price after the diagnostic, before any work begins. You choose the card and budget; we handle the rest.
How do I know my graphics card is actually dead?
You often don't. That's the point of diagnosing first. Failing power supplies, corrupted drivers, overheating from dust, a monitor plugged into the motherboard instead of the card, and bad cables all imitate GPU failure. We test with known-good parts and tell you what it really is.
Can you recommend what card I should upgrade to?
Yes. That's half the service. We check your power supply's wattage and connectors, your case clearance, and your CPU, then match a card to what you actually play or work on. You get a recommendation that fits your machine, not a generic "buy the biggest one."
Will I need a new power supply with a new graphics card?
Sometimes. Modern cards draw more power and use different connectors than older ones. This is the most common hidden cost in a GPU upgrade. We check your PSU as part of the recommendation and tell you up front if the card you want needs more power than you have.
Can you install a graphics card I bought myself?
Yes. Bring the card and the computer, and we'll verify it fits your case, slot, and power supply before installing, then do the full driver cleanup and stress test. The most common problem with self-bought cards is a power supply that can't feed them, so we check that first.
Is a used graphics card safe to buy?
It can be. Used cards are a real way to save money, but the used market includes a lot of ex-mining cards with worn fans and cooked thermal material. If you're buying used, we can bench-test a card and tell you what shape it's really in before you trust it.
My card is overheating. Do I need a new one?
Not always, and we'll say so. Years-old thermal paste, dried pads, and packed dust make healthy cards run like dying ones. Poor case airflow, packed dust in the tower or a struggling power supply is sometimes the real cause, and fixing that costs far less than a replacement. If the card itself is the problem, we don't rework graphics cards: we confirm it on the bench and replace it. The diagnostic sorts one from the other.
What about the melting connector problem on RTX 4090 and 5090 cards?
It's real and still being reported. High-power NVIDIA cards using the 12VHPWR / 12V-2×6 connector have produced ongoing melted-connector reports, usually involving adapters, tight cable bends, or connectors that weren't fully seated. When we install or service one of these cards, connector seating and cable routing get specific attention, and if yours shows discoloration, stop using it and bring it in with the cable.
Can you replace the graphics card in my laptop?
No. Laptop graphics are built into the board and aren't swappable the way desktop cards are. If your laptop's graphics are failing, it's a different conversation, start at our laptop repair page or call us with the model.
Will replacing my graphics card affect my files?
No. Your files live on your storage drives. A graphics card swap doesn't touch them. You'll come back to the same computer, just with working graphics.
How long does graphics card replacement take?
Once the card is in hand, the swap, driver cleanup, and stress testing are usually done same or next day. If we're sourcing a card for you, timing depends on availability, we'll give you a real date with the quote.
