Real recoveries from real people across central New Jersey.
"I shoot weddings for a living. My SD card stopped mounting halfway through culling a reception shoot and I panicked. Dave's recovered every single image, including ceremony shots I hadn't backed up yet. Local, fast, and priced fairly."
"My DJI Mini 3 took a hard landing and the MicroSD wouldn't mount afterward. Dave's got every video off it in two days. They were upfront about what it would cost before doing anything, which I appreciated. Worth every dollar."
"Three years of family photos on a card my daughter's camera stopped reading. I was devastated. Dave's had them all back within 48 hours. They called me when it was done, walked me through what happened, and showed me how to prevent it. Outstanding."

Your card never leaves our shop. Unlike national mail-in services, we do all recovery work here. You can call us for updates, stop in to check, or just wait for our text when the files are ready.
For most SD card recoveries, a national lab is overkill — and slow, expensive, and impersonal to boot.
The decisions you make in the first hour after a card failure have a huge impact on recovery success. Here's what we tell every customer.
Every photo you take, every file the camera writes, every time the device reads the card — it risks overwriting the data you want to recover. The moment something goes wrong, eject the card and put it somewhere safe. Don't "try one more thing."
Tools like Recuva and PhotoRec are well-intentioned but they read and write to the card during scanning. If the software fails partway through, it can corrupt the file system further and permanently reduce what's recoverable. Let us run a clean read before anything writes to the card.
Accidental format is one of the highest-success-rate scenarios we see. When a card is formatted, the file system index is wiped — but the underlying data often remains intact until new files are written over it. As long as you haven't taken more photos, recovery is highly likely.
Cards with bent connector pins, cracked bodies, or even water damage can sometimes be recovered with specialized tools that bypass the card's controller and read directly from the NAND memory chip. We'll tell you honestly at the diagnostic whether physical recovery is viable — we don't guess.

Real questions from NJ customers about SD card recovery. No vague answers.
SD card recovery at Dave's Computers starts with a $75 diagnostic that's credited toward recovery if you proceed. Logical recoveries — deleted files, accidental format, file corruption — run $149–$249. Physical damage cases run $199–$399 depending on complexity. New customers save $25 with the coupon below. If we can't recover your data, you pay the diagnostic only — nothing more.
Yes — accidental format is one of the most recoverable scenarios we see, provided you stop using the card immediately after formatting. Formatting wipes the file system index but the underlying photo data usually remains intact until new files overwrite it. The sooner you bring the card in, the better your odds. Do not take any more photos and do not put the card back in the camera.
We recover all major formats: standard SD, SDHC, SDXC, MicroSD, MicroSDHC, MicroSDXC, CompactFlash, CFexpress, Memory Stick, and UHS-I/UHS-II high-speed cards. Brands include SanDisk, Samsung, Lexar, Kingston, Sony, PNY, Transcend, Verbatim, Hoodman, Delkin, and generic/off-brand cards from dashcams and security systems.
Yes. We regularly work with cards from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, and Olympus cameras; DJI, Autel, and Skydio drones; GoPro action cameras; Android smartphones; dashcams; Nintendo Switch consoles; and security cameras. Bring just the card — we don't need the device unless the card is physically stuck.
Usually yes. "Card not recognized" and format prompts almost always mean the file system is corrupted, not that the photos are gone. Do not click Format. Bring the card in as-is. Our tools can read the raw storage directly and often extract your files even when Windows, your camera, or your phone refuses to mount the card.
Logical failures — deleted files, accidental format, corruption — typically complete same-day or next business day. Physical damage cases involving the controller or NAND chip take 2–5 business days. We'll give you an honest estimate at drop-off and text updates throughout. We don't sit on your recovery.
We strongly advise against it. Recovery tools like Recuva, PhotoRec, and Disk Drill read and sometimes write to the card during scanning, which can permanently overwrite the data you're trying to recover. If the scan fails or stalls, it may corrupt the file system further, making professional recovery harder or impossible. Stop using the card and bring it to us first.
No. All recovery work is performed in-house at our Somerville shop at 75 N Bridge St. We don't offer on-site or in-home service. Yes. We recover video in all major formats including MP4, MOV, AVCHD, MTS, AVI, and RAW video from cinema cameras. Drone footage, wedding video, security recordings, dashcam clips — we've recovered them all.
