Make Backups

Apple makes it easy to backup your iPhone data. It’s rather odd that most people don’t take advantage of this easy feature to help backup important contacts, documents, and photos with any regularity. The likelihood is that most people don’t know how simple it is to backup an iPhone, or they don’t think ahead enough to realize the hard spot they’d be in if they ever lost or broke their iPhone. For those of you who don’t know, there are 2 methods of backing up an iPhone. You can back up your iPhone to iCloud, or to your computer. There are pros and cons to each.

Backing Up to iCloud

Of the 2, backing up to iCloud is the most simple. It can be don’t using the New Jersey iPhone itself, and no additional accessories. It helps, and speeds up the process if you are connected to wireless internet, but it is not required. You can manually back up your device, or if connected to Wi-Fi and a power source, it will back up automatically, everyday. The iCloud backup is available for all iDevice users with an Apple ID. Each Apple ID holder is allowed 5GB of free iCloud storage. That storage plan can be upgraded, but getting additional space requires you to pay. iCloud will back up:

  • Purchased history for music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books
  • Photos and videos in your Camera Roll
  • Device settings
  • App data
  • Home screen and app organization
  • iMessage, text (SMS), and MMS messages
  • Ringtones
  • Visual Voicemail

The iCloud backup process is easy. Simply open the Settings app; choose iCloud > Storage & Backup. Set the toggle switch to the On position, and press the option below it, “Back Up Now”. It will back itself up. Restoring the backup data is equality easy. If you have restored your iPhone to its factory settings, or have gotten a new phone, your other backups will help you pick up exactly where you left off. The Set Up You iPhone screen appears, choose “Restore from iCloud backup”. If you have multiple backups it will ask you to choose which one you prefer.

Backing up to iCloud has a few advantages and a few disadvantages. The main disadvantage is the limited amount of free space that iCloud offers. If you have too very much data to backup, you have to be very choosy about what backs up and what doesn’t for practical reasons. The main advantage to backing up to iCloud is the fact that you can be anywhere, without any tools or computer, and restore your New Jersey iPhone to working condition. It’s especially helpful when getting a new iPhone. Select restore, and presto, you have your old iPhone again.

Backing Up to iTunes

Backing up to iTunes will give you more options than iCloud. iTunes offers unlimited space, and it is a bit more thorough. When you back up to iTunes, every last bit of data from your New Jersey iPhone gets backed up. The process is nearly as simple, but it requires a computers, and a sync cable. When the iPhone is plugged into the computer, it should show up on the left hand bar of iTunes. iTunes like to automatically back up your settings and app when you sync, but it is important to back up your iPhone, even when you don’t need to sync new content on to it. After selecting your device from the left hand bar, select the Summary tab. Scroll to the bottom, and select the bubble “Back up to this Computer,” then press “Back Up Now”. Restoring your iPhone is relatively simple also. Whether it’s new, factory reset, or in recovery mode, restoring your New Jersey iPhone isn’t that challenging. Plug you iPhone in, and select “Restore Backup” from the Summary tab. Select the backup you want, and let your computer restore it on to your iPhone.

The main advantage of backing up to your computer is the unlimited amount of backup space. When backing up to a computer instead of the cloud, you don’t have to choose what things to backup and what things not to. The main disadvantage is its inability to restore on-the-go. It has to be done with the computer it was originally synced with.

Factory Reset

If you haven’t backed up your device, your data could be lost for good. Especially if it has been factory reset. There is no way to get back data from a factory reset.

Third Party Programs

If you haven’t backed up your iPhone, and it gets damaged, there are third party programs that can help you restore your data, even with a broken phone. MobiSaver Free is the only free application, though there are plenty of buyable ones like: iPhone Data Recovery, FoneLab, and Dr.Fone.

Regardless of who you are or what you do with your device, you should undoubtedly back it up. It will save you time, stress, and probably money in the long run. Don’t risk losing your data, back it up today!
