The Blue Screen you won’t like

The Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD), also known as the STOP error occurs when the computer hardware faces an issue which is so serious that Windows needs to completely stop. The errors arise because of hardware or driver related issue on Windows 7 and Windows 8. On most occasions, a STOP code is shown. For instance, one of the most common codes that crops up which relates to using old drivers is “DRIVER-IRQL-NOT-LESS-OR-EQUAL”. The STOP code helps in figuring out the root cause of the Blue Screen of death. It might take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours to find out a solution to the problem, depending on the STOP code. Here are a few ways that can help you tackle blue screen of death.

  1. Have you made any hardware upgrades or installed a new update? If so, there is a huge possibility that the alterations led to a STOP error. Undo the changes you have made and try rebooting. You can also use a system restore or roll back the device driver to an older version.

  1. See to it that you meet the minimum space requirements on your primary partition. It is recommended that Windows users have 100MB of free space at any given time. Nonetheless, it is better to keep at least 15% of the drive’s capacity free.

  1. Scan your system for viruses. Some computer viruses that affect the boot sector or master boot record tend to cause this kind of an error.

  1. Turn BIOS to default settings. There are chances that a misconfigured or over clocked BIOS might cause a blue screen of death. In case you have made a host of customizations to the BIOS, try returning the voltage, clock speed as well as the memory to their default values.

  1. You can also try performing diagnostic tests on all the hardware elements. A Blue Screen of Death might be caused due to a failed hardware component too. Testing the system memory and hard disk drive is recommended. If the test fails, replace the peripheral as soon as possible.

You need to see what’s causing the PC to restart. More often than not, it’s the driver problem. For that, you can download free software like SlimDrivers that helps detect which drivers are outdated on your PC automatically. Alternatively, your PC manufacturer might also have a similar software for detection of outdated drivers. Download the software, detect the outdated drivers and install the new versions. The problem then is likely to be solved.
