Android, Windows, Mac, Risk of Bash Bug

Usually, a computer virus only affects one type of computer or device, but that isn’t the case with a virus floating around out there known simply as Bash Bug. This virus threatens millions of people who use computers, Internet routers, Android devices, Windows devices, and even machines and mobile units with the Apple operating system. This cross-platform virus has many people scared and it may require computer help. However, there are some things you can do to educate yourself and ensure you don’t become a victim.

What Is Bash Bug?

Also known as Shellshock, this virus works through a piece of system software called Bash. Virtually every system has it and has been using it since 1989. This includes Windows systems, Linux systems, and those running Max OS X. Because the virus goes after this one thing within the system, a lot more than just computers can be effected, including:

  • Android Phones
  • iPhones and iPads
  • Bitcoin Servers
  • Wireless Routers
  • Internet Routers
  • Systems Used to Run Power Plants, Water Facilities, Etc.

If any of these things are infected, then it becomes important for the user to immediately disconnect from the Internet until the machine can be serviced by computer help professionals.

Bash Bug works simply as a thing called a command shell, or something that tells your computer what to do. Essentially, it opens up a hole in the computer or device’s security, allowing hackers to have access to financial information, passwords and more. Hackers will even be able to install more software on the machine or run their own set of commands.

What Can You Do?

Right now, there’s not a lot you can do, but then again, it seems that Bash Bug has not been released on the world yet. If you have proper antivirus software, you should consider yourself fairly safe from this threat. Sometime in the near future, manufacturers will begin releasing patches, and you will need to download and install these to protect your devices. That means installing any patches for routers, computers and mobile devices.  In the case of mobile devices, the patch will likely come in the form of a push update. So, if your phone states that it needs to update, go ahead and allow it to do so.

If you have any concerns over Bash Bug, then it would be a good idea to contact computer help. You can ask questions of someone with professional experience and ensure you know what to expect and how to protect your machine.

Many people consider the Bash Bug as simply a risk of technology, while others are made very nervous by the problem. The best thing you can do is educate yourself as much as possible and get computer help when you need it.

Of course, if you have problems with viruses or anything with your computer, then it is a good idea to contact computer-help.com. You definitely don’t want a virus to stay on your device and put you further at risk, but you may need professional assistance removing the malware.
