Most people in Flemington who want a custom PC have never had one built, and Hunterdon County doesn't offer many places to find out how it works. So here's the whole process, in order: the conversation, the quote, the build and the pickup, with the prices attached. My shop is in Somerville, 25 minutes up Route 202, and I'm the technician who builds and tests every machine that leaves it.
Hunterdon County has a lot of things. A shop that will sit down with you and build a computer is not one of them.
Search "custom PC builder near me" from Flemington and the results are an online configurator with a shipping estimate, a big-box store on Route 202, and a few listings that turn out to be somebody's spare bedroom with no address. If you want to talk to the person who's going to build your machine, look at what's inside a case, and drop the PC off somewhere real when it needs attention, the nearest place I know of is my counter in Somerville, 25 minutes up Route 202.
That drive is the reason I wrote this. Most Flemington customers who call me have never had a PC built before. They want to know what happens between "I think I want a custom PC" and "I'm carrying it out to the car," and whether it's worth the trip. So here's the whole thing, in order, with the prices.
This is where the build is really decided. The parts are just the result.
You call the shop or stop in, and we sit down for the consultation. It's $150, credited in full toward the build when you approve the quote, and it's the most useful hour of the whole process, because it's where I find out what the machine is actually for. Here's what I'll ask.

Bring the games list, the monitor model number, and, if you have it, the spec sheet from your current PC. Photos of the inside of the old tower help too.
What it includes, what it doesn't, and why.
After the conversation I put together a quote. It tells you the performance tier the build is aimed at (what it will play, at what resolution, and how it'll handle your software), the price, and whether any of your existing parts are carrying over. When you approve it, the $150 consultation comes off the total and I order the parts.
What the quote doesn't include is a shopping list of brand names and model numbers. The written spec sheet with every component comes with the finished PC at pickup. I do it this way for a plain reason: I'm one technician, and I can't spend the afternoon pricing a parts list for a build that may never happen. The consultation fee and the quote-at-tier approach keep the process fair for both of us, and they let me put the time into the build itself.
What happens on the bench between "approved" and "ready."
Every component is inspected before it goes into the case. Bent pins, a damaged box, a drive that fails its first health check: those get sent back before they become your problem.
Processor, cooler, memory, motherboard, storage, graphics card, power supply, all in the right order with the cables routed so airflow works and a future upgrade doesn't mean unpicking a rat's nest.
I update the BIOS, enable the memory's rated speed profile, and install Windows 11 with the drivers current. Skipping the memory step is one of the most common mistakes I find in prebuilts; it quietly costs performance you paid for.
The machine runs hard for a sustained stretch while I watch temperatures, clock speeds and stability. If a fan curve needs adjusting or a part isn't behaving, it gets fixed here, not at your house.
The second and last drive up 202, and what you leave with.
I call when it's ready. At pickup you get the written spec sheet listing every component, a walkthrough of what's inside the case and why it's there, and a PC that's ready to plug into your monitor and go. If you brought parts from your old machine, you'll know which ones are in the new one. If you had questions about accounts, backups or moving files from the old PC, this is a good time to ask.
After that, the shop that built it is the shop that services it. Anything that ever needs attention comes back to the same bench, 25 minutes from Flemington, instead of into a shipping box.

I'd rather put $600 into the right parts of your current tower than $1,800 into a new build that can't play what you want.
A decent new custom build starts at $2,500, and I don't build below it, because the only way to hit a lower number is to cut the graphics card or the memory, and those are the parts that decide whether the games run. So when a Flemington customer tells me the budget is $1,200 or $1,500, my answer is to upgrade what's already in the house.
A new graphics card is the biggest single jump in game performance. More memory clears up stutter in modern titles and in heavy browser and office use. A fast NVMe SSD makes the whole machine feel new. If the processor is holding things back, a CPU upgrade or a bigger power supply to support a stronger card is usually still far cheaper than replacing the PC. For most three- to five-year-old desktops, one or two of those changes gets you most of the way to what a new build would do.

A few of the requests that come down 202 most often, and what they turn into.
The 1440p gaming PC. The most common request from Flemington, Raritan Township and Readington. Big open-world games and shooters on a 1440p 144Hz monitor. The sim rig. Flight sims and racing sims with a wheel or a yoke and two or three monitors. These want more graphics power and memory than people expect, and the monitor count changes the card choice, so bring the whole setup to the conversation.
The home office that also games. Remote work during the day, a game library at night. One machine, planned around both. Processor and memory for the workday, graphics for the evening, and a quiet cooling setup because it lives in a shared room.
The creator PC. Video editing for a small business, a farm's marketing, a YouTube channel. Processor cores, memory and fast storage lead, and the graphics choice follows the software. My AMD vs Nvidia guide walks through that decision.

Not one with a shop you can walk into, as far as I know. Dave's Computers in Somerville is the closest drop-off shop that builds custom PCs for Flemington and the rest of Hunterdon County, about 15 miles and 25 minutes up Route 202. The Flemington service page covers repairs as well.
