Black screen on a Dell usually means the system is POSTing but video signal isn't reaching the monitor. On desktops with dedicated GPUs it's often the graphics card, its connection, or a driver conflict. Don't assume it's the monitor. Bring the tower in and we'll isolate which side the problem is on.
My Dell Inspiron is really slow. Is it worth fixing?
