Will I lose my files when you replace my laptop’s hard drive?
No. The standard job is a full clone, so your files, programs, and settings all come over. The only exception is a drive that’s already failing, which we route through data recovery first and tell you about immediately.
Is an SSD upgrade worth it on an older laptop?
It’s usually the most worth it on an older laptop: the spinning drive is typically the single biggest thing holding it back. If the machine has other terminal problems, we’ll say so at assessment rather than upgrade something not worth upgrading.
Is a hard drive upgrade the same as an SSD upgrade?
Today, effectively yes, when we upgrade a laptop’s hard drive, the replacement is a solid-state drive. There’s no situation where we’d put a new spinning drive in a laptop as its main drive; SSDs are faster, tougher, and quieter.
How big an SSD do I need?
We look at what you’re actually using now and size up from there, enough headroom that you’re not back at “disk full” next year, without paying for space you’ll never touch. For most people that lands at 500GB or 1TB.
How long does a laptop SSD upgrade take?
Usually same-day or next-day: most of the time is the clone itself, which depends on how much data you have. Drop it off in the morning and it’s often ready before close.
