No — the standard job is a full clone, so your files, programs, and settings all come over. The only exception is a drive that’s already failing, which we route through data recovery first and tell you about immediately.
It’s usually the most worth it on an older laptop — the spinning drive is typically the single biggest thing holding it back. If the machine has other terminal problems, we’ll say so at assessment rather than upgrade something not worth upgrading.
Today, effectively yes — when we upgrade a laptop’s hard drive, the replacement is a solid-state drive. There’s no situation where we’d put a new spinning drive in a laptop as its main drive; SSDs are faster, tougher, and quieter.
