Fast for the first twenty minutes, sluggish after — with fan noise climbing the whole time. Classic thermal throttling: the cooler can’t shed the heat, so the CPU slows down until it can.
Liquid coolers are great until the pump wears out — and a failing pump can send a CPU toward 100°C under load. If your liquid-cooled rig suddenly runs hot or gurgles, stop gaming on it and bring it in.
The little cooler in the box — and the undersized ones in many prebuilts like the HP Omen line — are built to a price, not to your CPU’s potential. A proper cooler lets the chip you already own run at full speed.

If your machine is thermal throttling, it is one of the best-value upgrades there is — you get back speed you already paid for, without buying a faster chip. If temperatures are already healthy, we will tell you so and point the budget somewhere useful.
Not universally. Quality air is quieter over its lifetime and has no pump to fail; liquid wins on hot flagship chips and tight clearances. We recommend based on your CPU, case, and how long you want to keep the machine.
Sudden high temperatures on a machine that used to run cool, gurgling or rattling noises, or a CPU that hits its limit seconds into a load. If that sounds familiar, ease up on heavy use and bring it in — a cooked CPU costs far more than a cooler.
