🛑 Stop Using the Card Immediately
Every photo you take, every file the camera writes, every time the device reads the card, it risks overwriting the data you want to recover. The moment something goes wrong, eject the card and put it somewhere safe. Don't "try one more thing."
💻 Don't Run Free Recovery Software First
Consumer recovery programs are well-intentioned but they read and write to the card during scanning. If the software fails partway through, it can corrupt the file system further and permanently reduce what's recoverable. Let us run a clean read before anything writes to the card.
📋 "Formatted" Doesn't Mean "Gone"
Accidental format is one of the highest-success-rate scenarios we see. When a card is formatted, the file system index is wiped, but the underlying data often remains intact until new files are written over it. As long as you haven't taken more photos, recovery is highly likely.

Can you recover photos from a formatted SD card?
Yes, accidental format is one of the most recoverable scenarios we see, provided you stop using the card immediately after formatting. Formatting wipes the file system index but the underlying photo data usually remains intact until new files overwrite it. The sooner you bring the card in, the better your odds. Do not take any more photos and do not put the card back in the camera.

Do you recover SD cards from cameras, drones, dashcams, and phones?
Yes. We regularly work with cards from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, and Olympus cameras; DJI, Autel, and Skydio drones; GoPro action cameras; Android smartphones; dashcams; Nintendo Switch consoles; and security cameras. Bring just the card. We don't need the device unless the card is physically stuck.
My card says it needs to be formatted or isn't recognized. Is recovery still possible?
Usually yes. "Card not recognized" and format prompts almost always mean the file system is corrupted, not that the photos are gone. Do not click Format. Bring the card in as-is. Our tools can read the raw storage directly and often extract your files even when Windows, your camera, or your phone refuses to mount the card.
How long does SD card recovery take?
Logical failures (deleted files, accidental format, corruption) typically complete same-day or next business day. Physical damage cases involving the controller or NAND chip take 2–5 business days. We'll give you an honest estimate at drop-off and text updates throughout. We don't sit on your recovery.
Is it safe to run free SD card recovery software before coming in?
We strongly advise against it. Consumer recovery programs read and sometimes write to the card during scanning, which can permanently overwrite the data you're trying to recover. If the scan fails or stalls, it may corrupt the file system further, making professional recovery harder or impossible. Stop using the card and bring it to us first.
Do you offer in-home or on-site SD card recovery in New Jersey?

Yes. We recover video in all major formats including MP4, MOV, AVCHD, MTS, AVI, and RAW video from cinema cameras. Drone footage, wedding video, security recordings, dashcam clips: we've recovered them all. Large video files can sometimes require additional time to verify complete frame integrity, but we check everything before calling you.
