A liquid-cooled desktop that overheats within seconds, a pump that gurgles, rattles or has gone silent, or a cooler warning at startup on an Alienware means the sealed all-in-one cooler has failed. I replace AIO coolers in Alienware Aurora, Dell XPS, boutique prebuilt and custom-built gaming PCs at my Somerville, NJ shop. Sealed AIO units only, no custom loops. Signs the AIO Has Failed
An all-in-one cooler has a pump, a radiator and fans. The pump is the part that dies.
A sealed liquid cooler moves heat from the processor to a radiator with a small pump, and that pump has a working life of a few years. When it fails, the symptoms are fast: the desktop is fine at the login screen and then throttles or shuts down within seconds of opening a game or a heavy program, while the radiator fans spin like nothing is wrong.
Before it fails outright, a pump usually announces itself with a gurgle, a rattle or a buzz that changes with load. Alienware towers raise a cooler warning at startup when the pump drops out; custom builds show a fan error instead. Some New Jersey customers bring me a tower with a damp patch or white crust below the cooler, which is a leak, and that needs to come in right away.
Radiator fans running doesn't mean the cooler is working. If the pump isn't moving liquid, the heat never reaches the radiator, and the processor throttles no matter how hard the fans run.
If the tower is air-cooled, the equivalent repair is my CPU fan and heat sink replacement. Other reasons a PC quits under load are on my restarting and shutting off page.
What This Service Covers
Sealed all-in-one coolers, in any desktop that has one. Not open loops.
Covered: the factory liquid coolers in Alienware Aurora and Dell XPS desktops, the AIOs that ship in boutique prebuilts such as CyberPowerPC, iBUYPOWER, Skytech, NZXT BLD, Origin PC, Digital Storm and CLX, and any sealed 120, 240, 280 or 360 mm AIO in a custom-built PC. Replacing an AIO with another AIO, or with a quality tower air cooler when the case and processor allow it.
Not covered: custom open loops with separate pumps, reservoirs, tubing and water blocks, and loop draining, refilling or fitting work. Graphics cards with their own liquid coolers are tested and, if failing, replaced under my graphics card replacement service, not rebuilt. If your tower has an open loop, I'll tell you at the counter that I'm not the right shop for it.

Bring the desktop and its power cord to 75 N Bridge St in Somerville, NJ. No appointment. Drop-off takes a few minutes and you leave with a ticket and a phone number.

I confirm what has failed and check the parts around it. The diagnostic is $75 for a Dell, HP, Lenovo or other major-brand desktop and $149 for a custom-built or boutique PC, credited toward the work when you approve it.

One flat quote
You get one number for the cooler replacement, parts and labor together, before any work starts. Parts are supplied by the shop with a manufacturer warranty. Nothing beyond the diagnostic is charged until you say yes.
Fresh thermal compound and a sustained load test are included, not billed separately.

Repair and test
The work is done to the manufacturer's service documentation for your model, then the tower is tested on the bench before you're called for pickup.

How do I know the AIO has failed?

Do you replace the liquid cooler in Alienware and Dell XPS desktops?
Yes. Dell fits sealed liquid coolers to the Alienware Aurora line and to some XPS desktops, and each uses a part specific to the chassis. I supply the correct assembly for your exact model.
Do you work on custom water-cooling loops?
No. This service is for sealed all-in-one coolers only. Open loops with separate pumps, reservoirs and tubing are a different specialty, and I don't take them on.
Can you replace my AIO with an air cooler instead?
Often, yes. When the case and the processor allow it, I'll quote a quality tower air cooler alongside the AIO so you can choose.
My AIO is leaking. Is the computer ruined?
Usually not, but stop using it and bring it in. I check the board and the graphics card for damage before the new cooler goes in, so you know what the leak reached.
