How much does laptop keyboard repair cost in NJ?
It depends on the model, so I quote it at drop-off after the $75 diagnostic, and the $75 is credited toward the repair. The biggest price factor is whether your laptop's keyboard is a separate part or built into the palm rest. You approve the flat price before any work starts.
Can you replace just one key on my laptop?
No. I don't do single-key repairs. Laptop keys use small clips and scissor hinges that rarely hold once they've broken, so a one-key patch tends to fail again. I replace the entire keyboard with a quality part made for your model, which is the repair that actually lasts.
Is laptop keyboard replacement worth it, or should I buy a new laptop?
For most laptops a few years old, a keyboard replacement costs far less than a new machine. After the diagnostic I'll tell you straight if the total doesn't make sense for your laptop's age and value.
I spilled a drink on my laptop keyboard. What should I do?
Power it off, unplug it and bring it in as soon as you can. Don't keep testing it. Liquid can reach the board under the keyboard, so the diagnostic checks the whole machine, not just the keys, and I'll tell you what was affected before quoting.
Can I just use a USB keyboard instead?
You can, and it works fine at a desk. It doesn't help when you're using the laptop on the go, and if the problem is liquid damage, the damage underneath doesn't go away. The diagnostic tells you which situation you're in.
How long does laptop keyboard repair take?
It depends on the part. If the keyboard for your model is on hand it can be quick; otherwise I order the exact part and give you a timeline with the quote. Rush service is available for $100 if you need it sooner.
Will I lose my files during a keyboard replacement?
No. A keyboard replacement doesn't touch the drive. If a spill or other damage has put your data at risk, I'll tell you before anything else happens, and laptop data recovery is available.
