PC Repair for Bound Brook NJ: Desktops, Gaming Rigs, and Custom Builds

You can't slip a tower into a backpack, nobody wants to box one up for a mail-in depot, and the big-box counter ships anything interesting somewhere else. For Bound Brook, the practical answer is 7 minutes west: a bench in downtown Somerville where the person who takes your PC is the person who fixes it.

What Comes Across the Bench From Bound Brook

From the family desktop to the RGB machine in the basement.

  • Won't turn on, or turns on to nothing. Fans spin and the screen stays black, or the power button does nothing at all. A proper diagnostic finds which part failed before you buy a single one. There's more on the desktop won't turn on page.
  • Gaming rigs behaving badly. Crashes mid-match, black screens under load, heat problems twenty minutes in. Prebuilts and home builds alike, covered on the gaming PC repair page.
  • The slow-motion desktop. Five-minute boots and a freezing browser usually trace to a tired drive or a software mess. I wrote up the causes in the slow computer guide for Bound Brook.
  • Upgrades. SSDs, memory, graphics cards and power supplies, installed, cabled and tested. The PC upgrade service page has the details.
  • Custom build help. A half-finished build that won't start, or a new machine built around what you do with it, through my custom PC build service.
  • All-in-ones. HP, Dell and Lenovo all-in-one desktops come in from Bound Brook home offices regularly.
If a desktop died suddenly: don't keep flipping the power switch or swapping cables while it's plugged in. Repeated power cycling with a failing power supply or drive is how a fixable problem turns into an expensive one. Unplug it and bring it in as it is.

Diagnosis First, Then a Quote

Every machine gets the same treatment on my bench.

1

Drop off the tower

Bring the tower and its power cable to 75 N Bridge St in Somerville. Leave the monitor, keyboard and mouse at home unless they're part of the problem.

2

I find the actual fault

Power, board, memory, storage, graphics, Windows. Parts get tested, so you aren't paying for a guess.

3

You approve a flat quote

You hear what failed and what it costs before any work begins. That includes the honest version of "this one isn't worth fixing" when that's true.

4

Repair, test, pickup

The work is done here in Somerville and tested under load before I call you. The diagnostic fee comes off the bill.

Desktops reward that approach more than anything else I service, because almost everything in a tower is replaceable. A good diagnosis often turns "I guess I need a new computer" into a one-part repair with years left in the machine. The full service is on the PC repair and desktop computer repair pages. If you're still guessing at symptoms, the roundup of the seven computer problems I see most from Bound Brook is a good place to match yours.

Repair, Upgrade, or Replace?

The answer depends on the machine, and I'll give it to you straight after the diagnostic.

A five-year-old desktop with a slow hard drive is almost always worth an SSD. A gaming PC that can't keep up usually needs a graphics card, more memory, or both, and that costs far less than starting over. A decent new custom gaming build starts at $2,500, so if your budget is under that, upgrading the PC you own is the better spend. The custom PC repair and upgrades page covers how that works.

One policy to know: I don't repair graphics cards. A card gets tested, and if it has failed, it gets replaced.

Tower acting up? Bring it in with the power cable and I'll take it from there.

Where can I get a desktop PC repaired near Bound Brook, NJ?

Dave's Computers is a drop-off shop at 75 N Bridge St in Somerville, about 4 miles and 7 minutes from Bound Brook on Route 28. I repair brand-name desktops, all-in-ones, gaming PCs and custom builds, and all the work is done on my bench in Somerville.

How much does PC repair cost?

The diagnostic is $75 for brand-name desktops and $149 for custom-built and boutique gaming PCs. Either one is credited toward the repair when you go ahead. You get a flat quote before any work begins.

Do you come to homes in Bound Brook?

No. Residential service is drop-off only. If the tower is heavy, call from the parking area and I'll help you carry it in. On-site service is available for business clients.

What should I bring with my desktop?

The tower and its power cable. Leave the monitor, keyboard and mouse at home unless they're part of the problem. For an all-in-one, bring the whole unit and its power adapter.

Can you fix a custom PC I built myself?

Yes. A build that won't start, crashes or runs hot gets the $149 custom PC diagnostic, credited toward labor. I don't judge anyone's cable management.

Do you repair graphics cards?

No. I test the card, and if it has failed I replace it. I don't repaste or rework graphics cards.

Is my old PC worth fixing?

Often, yes. Most desktop faults are one part, and an SSD or memory upgrade can add years. If the repair costs more than the machine is worth, I'll tell you after the diagnostic and you pay the diagnostic only.

How do I get to the shop from Bound Brook?

Take Route 28 (Union Ave) west through Finderne into Somerville, where it becomes East Main St. Turn right onto N Bridge St. The shop is at number 75, one block up, behind Bank of America.
