That second job teaches you things no parts review can: exactly which steps generate the panicked phone calls, which mistakes cost real money, and which "dead" builds aren't dead at all. Here is the build order we use professionally, the traps at each step, and — because it's 2026 and every component costs more than it used to — an honest word about when handing it off is the smarter play.

Before anything: the parts sanity check. Most catastrophes are decided before the first screw. The build order, the way a bench does it

2. Bench-test before you case anything. GPU last, after the cables it needs are routed. 10. Front-panel connectors — the tiny labeled pins everyone hates. Manual open, one at a time, and know that getting power-LED backwards hurts nothing.

11. First boot, into the BIOS — then stop. Update the BIOS before installing anything; on current AMD boards especially, this step prevents the no-POST misery that strands brand-new builds. And if your first boot shows nothing for a few minutes: modern boards run memory training on first power-up. Wait before you panic. Then enable your RAM's XMP or EXPO profile — without it you paid for fast memory and are running it slow. 12. Install Windows from a USB stick, let updates finish, install drivers. 13. Stress test before you trust it. Sustained CPU and GPU load with temperatures watched, plus a memory stability run. Hours, not minutes.
