Gaming and Streaming PC Build Idea for New Jersey: What's Inside a $6,000 Streaming Tower
I pulled up a "game and stream from one box" tower from one of the national online builders to see what they think a streamer needs in 2026. As configured, it listed at $5,975.48. Below is what's in it, section by section, in plain language. If that number is overkill for your budget, visit the shop in Somerville and sit down with Dave to spec a build around the games you play, the way you stream and the money you want to spend.

Overview: What This Build Is For
Playing the game and sending it to Twitch or YouTube from the same tower.
Streaming a game means the PC does two jobs at once. It runs the game, and it compresses what's on screen into video and pushes it up to the internet, live, without either job stealing from the other. The reference build handles that the way most streamers do in 2026: a fast gaming processor runs the game, and the graphics card's built-in video encoder handles the stream. That encoder is a separate piece of the card, so turning on the stream costs the game very little.
The builder also leaves a slot open for a capture card, which is how you bring in video from outside the PC: a console, a camera, or a second computer. Plenty of streamers never need one. Most people aren't. That's what the consultation is for.
An online configurator hands you forty dropdowns and asks you to pick. I'd rather ask you a few questions across the counter. What do you play? What monitor do you play it on? Where do you stream, and with what software? Is there a camera, a console or a second PC in the picture? What's the budget? What do you own already that's worth keeping? The answers decide the build.

The configurator shows where the money goes. Dropping from 64GB to 32GB of memory took about $600 off the price. Stepping the graphics card up to an RTX 5080 added about $975, and an RTX 5090 added nearly $5,700. Using only the processor's built-in graphics took off about $645, which the builder says is fine for a simple single-camera stream with no gaming.
Storage
One fast drive, with space to grow.
The reference build has a single 2TB NVMe solid state drive rated around 7,000 MB/s. That holds Windows, a healthy game library and your streaming software. Three more drive positions were left empty.
Whether one drive is enough depends on whether you record. If you only go live, 2TB is plenty. If you save every stream locally to cut highlights and YouTube videos later, recordings pile up fast, and a second drive for footage keeps the game drive from filling. That's a question I ask at the consultation, and it's an easy thing to add later. (I also add drives to existing PCs.) Chassis & Cooling
For a streamer, noise is part of the spec. Your microphone hears what you hear.

This is where cheap prebuilts cut corners, and streamers notice first, because a loud or overheating PC shows up on the broadcast.

Nobody should spend $6,000 on a streaming PC because a dropdown menu defaulted to it.

How much does a gaming and streaming PC cost in New Jersey?
The reference tower in this post listed at $5,975.48 as configured when I checked it in September 2026. At my shop in Somerville, a new custom gaming build starts at $2,500, and the $150 consultation is credited in full toward the build when you approve the quote.
Can one PC game and stream at the same time?
Yes. A modern graphics card has a dedicated video encoder that handles the stream while the rest of the card runs the game, so a single well-balanced PC covers both. A second PC only makes sense for a few high-end setups. More in my streaming PC build guide.
Do I need a capture card to stream?
Only if the video comes from outside the PC: a console, a camera with HDMI or SDI output, or a second computer. Streaming a game that runs on the same PC needs no capture card.
Is a $6,000 streaming PC overkill?
For most streamers, yes. Much of that price is memory, networking and power supply headroom a typical game stream never touches. A build specced around your games, your monitor and your streaming software can cost far less.
My budget is under $2,500. What should I do?
Upgrade the PC you have. A newer graphics card with a current encoder, more memory and a fast SSD fix most streaming problems. A $149 diagnostic on a custom or gaming PC, credited toward the labor, tells you which of those is worth doing on your machine. My PC upgrade service page has the details.
